The Mollett Street venue , originally a craft market space run by a hippie collective, morphed from a practice space for a band into a fully-fledged underground punk sanctuary after the demand and potential for such a venue was recognised. It closed in 1978 making way for the Gladstone to become the focal point for the Christchurch "Punk" scene
