Tom Thumb Mk1 - circa late 1968
Graeme Thompson (Guitar/Vocals), Sammy Shaw (Drums), Warren Willis (Organ/Vocals) and Rick White (Bass/Guitar/Vocals)
There are those who claim that Tom Thumb's 1969 recording of Lennon-McCartney's Hey Bulldog betters The Beatles original. Either way, their terrific Peter Dawkins produced version took the song away from its origins as a pure rocker and created a soulful jazz-rock killer, driven by the saxophone of the late Don Richardson. The band would then go on to create one of NZ's first progressive rock records, the "very" rare Ludgate Hill EP. |
