Tony and The Twangers - at The Lodge, Hanmer Springs, New Zealand
Antoon 'Tony' Verplak (Lead Guitar), Stan Kidd (Rhythm Guitar), Dean Howe (Saxophone) along with Noel (Vocalist) and Ross (Drummer)
Tony and The Twangers recorded two original compositions Dew Drops and The Beetles Morning March for Robbins Recordings (RRSP43) in 1964. The Twangers played regularly (Friday and Saturday nights) at The Hanmer Lodge. Their repertopire was essentially old-time jazz. The band leader, Antoon Verplak, was born in Nijmegen, The Netherlands on 02/10/1943. He was the bass player in the guitar band The Blue Rockets, before emigrating to New Zealand in 1962. He played in Christchurch group The Javelins at the Copper Cat as well as with The Twangers. He would later emigrate to Australia (in 1965). Both tracks of the Robbins single RRSP43 are Verplak compositions.
