Brian Vaughan - drummer with The Phantoms circa 1965 and The MidKnights .....
The Phantoms were, Don Hickman (Bass Guitar), Andy Joines (Guitar), Brian Vaughan (Drums), Alan Johansson (Guitar)
Stuart Leishman later replaced Don Hickman on bass guitar. Neil Falconer spent a couple of years on the drumseat for this group.
Concentrating on their own individual style, this experienced group was formed circa 1963. Lead guitarist and vocalist, Andy Joines headed the five, and the other members were Alan Johnansson (Rhythm Guitar), Stewart Leishman (Bass Guitar), Brian Vaughan (Drums) and Peter Smith (Vocals). All the boys helped out with vocal backings, and they composed and played their own numbers, some of which they recorded. While not endeavouring to become full-time entertainers, they intended to keep on appearing in and around Christchurch enjoying the pleasure of playing together. The group competed in The Big Beat Dance Band Contest of 1965, but were unsuccessful in their attempt to win the contest. |
